Welcome to the Nutmeg Chapter of the American Truck Historical Society
NEXT MEETING: July 14, 2019
Bernice West’s Home
425 Turnpike Road
Somers, CT 06071
Business Meeting at 2:00 PM
It is hard to believe that it is June already. Summer is here and our Brooklyn Truck Show is just down the road. By now most
of us have checked our antique vehicles to be sure they are road-worthy and ready for the many shows that are happening
this Summer and Fall.
Those members who attended our May meeting at Mike Andert’s experienced a great venue. Mike’s business is very
interesting. With only a few employees, Mike has developed a niche for welding, fabrication and vacuum tank truck bodies.
With Mike’s vast experience in this field and some heavy-duty equipment, he can build almost anything. Mike’s main source
of advertising is “word of mouth”. His customers are local and out-of-state and does work for the State of Connecticut. It is
nice to see a small successful business thriving in Connecticut, not an easy thing these days. Mike and Laura prepared a
delicious lunch that we all enjoyed. Thank you to Harold Foskett for arranging this meeting.
ATHS National has notified us via The Dispatch that in April and May you may have been billed twice for your membership.
They were in the process of re-vamping computer programs and this caused the double billing. The problem has been
Things are coming together for our Truck Show. We still have some space available in the Toy Barn for vendors. Hopefully
our members are putting the Show Posters out in their area. We could use more volunteers to spread the work around. If
you haven’t signed up yet, please give John Raymond or me a call if you find that you can give us an hour or so on Sunday.
Or stop at the Registration Booth and the ladies will find us. Tom Bachand has made arrangements to be on The Morning
Show with Gary” O “ on WINY 1350 AM on Wednesday June 19 in the 7:30 time slot to talk about our show. So tune your
dial to WINY 1350 AM or 97.1 FM. Kathy & I will have to ask Alexa to tune it in! One last thing, if you know any “church
ladies”, please ask them to put in a good word for us for a nice day on June 23.
Even before our Brooklyn Show happens, I would like to thank our officers, board members, and members who took on
assignments to plan the show. Your research and presenting our options on how to do things will make our show GREAT.
Check the Events Section of this Newsletter. We have dates and locations for our meetings for the rest of the year. We also
have a few additional events that members may be interested in attending. Wishes on Wheels and a truck show at the
American Heritage Museum may be of interest to our members. Be sure to check the Events Calendar.
Speaking of stepping up, Rich Cwirka has contacted me and expressed an interest in researching the feasibility of the Nutmeg
Chapter sponsoring a Scholarship. Thanks Rich for your support.
Our July meeting will be held at Bernice West’s home in Somers. Bernice and her son Bob, Jr. are looking forward to seeing
everyone. Rob LaPlante and Ken Anderson will take care of getting things ready and would welcome any help either with
set-up or clean-up. Bob Jr. reminded me that there is plenty of room for members to bring their trucks. Just like “Old Times”,
we will hold our meeting in Bob’s Garage. More information can be found at the end of the Secretary’s Minutes.
See you soon.
Don Arnauckas, President
